Nicole Tierney
29 year old Gold Coaster Nicole Tierney, has suffered with Crohn’s Disease since she was 21. She has been hospitalized many times. She has suffered greatly but has never complained. She always has a smile on her face no matter what. Nicole is a beautiful person inside and out. She loves life, loves her family and has a passion for cooking. Nicole is a fun loving, kind and generous person she would give away all her money and possessions if it would help someone else. Nicole also is very spiritual and has great faith. Nicole has a twin sister who recently gave birth to twin boys. In May of this year Nicole went into hospital for a complicated Bowel Resection. Due to complications Nicole suffered a stroke, seizures, liver and kidney failure and a collapsed lung. All of this has left her with a severe Brain Injury. Nicole is still currently in the Mater Hospital in Brisbane. Nicole requires 24/7 care. She can’t eat unaided, speak or walk. It is believed that she only has slight vision in 1 eye. Nicole was not expected to live, but she has an amazing will. She has defied all the odds and her family believe that she is working from within to come back to them. They will not give up hope for her recovery. Nicole has been in hospital now for 7 months. Her family are trying to bring Nicole home to care for her and refuse to send her to a Nursing Home. The following items are needed before Nicole can come home:
- An electric bed with air pressure mattress to prevent pressure sores.
- Bath Trolley
- Hoist/Sling
- Recliner Chair
- A customised wheelchair
- An IV pole
There is also the ongoing expense of other medical items, therapies and nursing care. Both of Nicole’s parents are giving up their full time jobs to care for Nicole around the clock once she comes home, and they will need to go on a carers pension. We need your support to bring Nicole home after such a long stay in hospital.
My wife and I are blessed with two beautiful daughters with their lives ahead of them, like Nicole and we shudder at the thought of how we would cope with the challenges that have been given to Nicole's family, if you have children you will understand - how would you manage? Please help us to help them by sponsoring one of their supporters on this site or at:
Remember, all donations are tax deductible and this is a free site.
The Kokoda Challenge 2010

The Kokoda Challenge is Australia's premier bushwalking team event where teams of 4 people trek a 96km course through the Gold Coast Hinterland within a 39 hour time limit. The event is held on the 3rd week of July every year with registrations closed within two days of the opening date!
I am delighted to provide a free sponsor form system to every participant in every team to help them raise as much money as possible directly for the The Kokoda Challenge Association. All your donation, every cent, will go to the Association. They have to pay bank fees and other administration of course but use of SponsorMe is totally free of any charges.

The Kokoda Challenge 2010
The 6th Annual Kokoda Challenge will be held on the weekend of July 17 & 18, 2010
Featured Charity
The Kokoda Challenge Association was established in January 2005 with two main aims;
1. To educate youth and raise general public awareness of the gallant victory by Australian soldiers in 1942 on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea – a victory which undoubtedly saved Australia from Japanese occupation.
2. To identify young Australians who are at a crossroad and support them through a 12 month community counsel – The Kokoda Challenge Youth Program. This requires the participants selected to undertake a 12 month commitment to a community program, designed and supported by the Kokoda Challenge Association, which encourages participants to develop self-awareness within the wider community and prepare them for the challenges of life. The Kokoda Challenge Youth Program culminates in the participants using the skills and training to undertake the challenge of walking the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.
To enable to Kokoda Challenge Association to achieve these main aims it was decided that funds would be raised by conducting a yearly Queensland Kokoda Challenge Event – to be held in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
